Firebird Gets a Makeover

Before the 2009 season got into full swing, Harris took the Firebird to the chassis shop of Neal & Parks in an attempt to get the car to "work better". When it returned to Utah the hedders perviously used no longer fit so Jarod Jardine, son of legendary header builder Jerry, came down from Wyoming to hand some new pipe on the potent Donovan engine.

Jarod and his Dad currently have a fabrication shop in Wyoming and although hedders have not been on their front burner, the younger Jardine is now trying to get back into the art his father was so famous for.

After doing all his measurements, Jardine welded up the new hedders in his trailer. Unlike most funny car headers that incorporate a tight 90 degree bend, Jarod believes his new design that features a more swooping bend will not only make more power but "plant" the car harder on the top end. Harris ran a set at Boise last year and said the "car really hauled on the other end".
