Brett Harris Wins
39th Nightfire Nationals
Firebird Raceway, Boise, Idaho
- August 15, 2010: Setting Low ET every round (including Low
of the meet - 5.78), Brett Harris wheeled the newly refurbished
Nitro Thunder top fuel dragster to a huge win at Firebird Raceway's
premier event. Harris beat Californian Jim Murphy in the final
5.83 at 247 to a very close 5.89 at 240. It was Brett's second
Nightfire win.
Brett has spend the last six
months doing a complete home make over apart from working with
the crew on the make over of "Big Red". Big Red was
completely cut apart and remade to Bretts specs. As the Old Big
Red was made to Jacks specs. Frank Park Quoted "He made
the First Big Red to be balanced with Jack driving not Brett",
They got by (Jack and Brett) with Brett driving and won 2 Championships,
but the car was not balanced properly and Brett had to fight
it to just get it down the track. With the new car made to Bretts
specs, it now "drives like a dream", as it showed at
Boise. First qualifying run and check out run came back with
the lowest ET ever run to the finals. A big plus for the Frank
and Scott Park workmanship and engineering.
Qualifying
- Session One
In years past,
there were three pro qualifying sessions but in an attempt to
give their largest crowd (Saturday) a better show and have first
round of eliminations under the lights they dropped one session..
So, it was important to get a baseline tune-up on the first shot.
The first qualifying
session was scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and got rolling late.
For his first baseline
pass Harris carded a shut-off-early 6.201 at 181.08.
Qualifying
- Session Two
After some fine tuning on the
Conards, first full run came in with a great 5.810 at 250.13
qualifying #1.

live back to the spectators on how the run felt.
Co-Crew Chief Rayce Muchmore

Eliminations
Round One
In first round
of racing with an odd number car count Harris, as #1 qualifyer,
got a by run.

Carissa stays in shape
with the fast back-up.
Big Red leaves hard with
a mild but strong tune up to test the track in the heat.
When all he had to do by the
rules was stage the car and leave the starting line Harris hung
it out and gave the fans a show ripping off Low ET of the meet
- 5.785 at 246.57.
Eliminations
Round Two
To move on Harris had
to get by Rick Williamson.
Semi round win against Brad Thompson.
With confidence Brett took no chance against Brad with the lights
and tune up. With an easy 5.95 win Brett earns a shot for the
finals with long time friend and rival Jim Murphy.
The final against Jim Murphy
was a dandy with Harris beating the Californian 5.83 at 247 to
a very close 5.89 at 240. Big Red and Murphy have been together
in the final race more than any other 2 race teams. No one knows
the score.
