NITRO NATIONALS
Saturday,
August 7 was the night for the biggest and most popular drag
race all season at RMR. The quarter-mile was lit up as nationally
known drag racing stars visited Rocky Mountain Raceways. Some
of the features include: Doug Herbert, Mike Strasburg, Del Worsham,
Keith Jackson, Phil Burkart Jr. and Robert Schwab. Also featured
was a Utah vs California Nostalgia Top Fuel shootout featuring
local hero, Jack Harris. Along with Harris was Scott Mason (Utah)
and Howard Haight and Jason Richey (California).
The Sheriff and
his Utah Posse were literally at home for this booked in (fun)
event at Rocky Mountain Raceways so the Nitro Thunder family
and fans were there in full force. With no points or qualifying
to worry about the whole bunch had nothing but a good time.
The crew arrived
at RMR Saturday morning to unload and get the car ready.
The view from the stands at RMR
is as good as it gets. The fans have a clear view from the starting
line to finish line.

- ready for round one.
The first round
of Nostalgia Top Fuel pitted the two Utah cars (Harris and Mason)
and the two California cars (Haight and Richie).

Jack left first and never
looked back.
In spite of hazing the tires,
Harris ran low ET and Top Speed of the field (5.99 @ 248) earning
him the right to meet the winner of the California match up.

Cindy Harris,
Jack's oldest daughter made a rare appearance at the races on
her new bike. One way or the other, the whole family is into
horsepower.

All the kids
were on hand and Muranda ( Rayce's girlfriend) played tour guide.
This was truly a family affair as its almost impossible to take
everyone to the out of state races.
How may kids can you put in a
Colorado? Heather Harris and her two daughters, the blonds are
Mandy's, Jack's nice. Kaitlan, Steve Tyrrell's daughter in the
front seat. O ya Kaden is in the back with all of the girls.
Under the lights - The two losing cars from the first round
met in a Utah - California "grudge match". Utah based
Scott Mason came out on top over Jason Richey. Scott ran his
best ever (6.25) at Rocky Mountain in he process. Mason and crew
are pumped and ready for the 2004 Boise Nights of Fire. Mason
works at Jack Harris Autobody and Painting and use to tune the
Nitro Thunder car before Brett took over.

Jack Harris (Utah)
and Howard Haight (California) after the final. As a result of
too many hands in the fire, the #2 spark plug was damaged during
installation so Harris' engine was only running on seven cylinders.
Haight on the other hand took a very exciting trip down the left
lane - hugging the guardrail to the lights. The results were
Haight beat The Sheriff with a 6.12 to a 6.22.
