Harris - Nitro
Thunder Shatter Boise Track Records 5.88 ET @
250 MPH
Boise, Idaho
- August 8 - 10. Battling incredibly adverse weather and track
conditions (99 degrees, track temp 145 and corrected altitude
pressing 6,500 feet), Jack Harris and the Nitro Thunder team
won some battles but ultimately lost the war.
Final Top Fuel
Qualifying

2. Jeff Diehl 6.016 @ 231.30
3. Howard Haight 6.031 @ 213.67
4. Jim Murphy 6.041 @ 220.21
5. Bill Dunlap 6.073 @ 231.71
6. Lee Jennings 6.134 @ 224.10

On Thursday before the race,
the Nitro Thunder car was on display at Larry Miller Dodge in
Boise. Manager Ed Allred arranged to let the team use a new Hemi
Dodge truck for the weekend.
The quickest
and fastest run of the event came during the first qualifying
session on Friday night. Jack "The Sheriff" Harris
stunned the Boise crowd (and the other TF crews) with an incredible
5.88 @ 250! Needless to say it was both ends of the track record
by a BUNCH!
Jack Harris gives the
tumbs up after his historic pass.

Harris is suited
up and ready to get into the car prior to his Saturday night
pass.
Deputy
Bob Eames calls home prior to Saturday's run.
On Saturday night Harris laid down another
five second pass (5.96 @ 247.93), this time in the right lane.
But unlike Friday night, the Nitro Thunder car hurt some engine
parts which left the Posse burning the midnight oil getting Big
Red ready for Sunday eliminations.
In the first
round of eliminations Harris was paired up with Bob Muravez at
the wheel of Jon Halstead's "Western Hoist Special".
Muravez knew he had to take a shot at the lights to get by the
five second red car from Utah. He took his shot and came up red.
Harris shut off early to a 6.22 @ 221. Muravez gave the fans
a show with a 6.32 @ 209.
The Posse warms up the engine
prior to their semi final match with Bill Dunlap.
Three-time champ
Jack Harris attempted to stop Dunlap in semis in what would be
the closest race of the event. Harris gained a .537 to .638 advantage
at the tree and zipped to a 6.09 @ 225.33. But it would be Dunlap
with a brilliant 5.98 @ 240.89, taking the win by a .004 margin
of victory. In short, it was a great drag race and somebody had
to lose.
